Ukrainian long-range drones struck a key Moscow oil refinery and logistics facility as Washington enforced sweeping new sanctions on Russia's energy sector.
Enough got through. The Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, about 15 kilometers from the Kremlin, was hit. Video from the scene showed large fires and heavy black smoke at dawn.
Ukrainian officials said the strike damaged primary processing and isomerization units at a plant that supplies a large share of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel to the Moscow region. A logistics warehouse complex in Sofyino was also reported hit. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the operation, saying Ukrainian long-range systems struck “one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and the aggressor’s logistics facility.” He called those sites part of the money that keeps the war machine running. Russia reported at least two deaths and several injuries in the Moscow region. Officials in the capital said there were no fatalities at the refinery itself. Moscow accused Kyiv of trying to disrupt the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Ukraine framed the raid as a strike on energy and logistics that fund the invasion.
